Days Traveling to Captiva

Tuesday, January 29
Al and I left this morning heading south but we are taking a detour through Bruceton, TN to visit my mother who is in a nursing home recovering from a fall and doing rehab.  She celebrated her 99th birthday on January 20 and is anxious to be back home. We left home about 7: 30 …..the temperature was about 20 degrees and dropping.  A light snow had just began and the driveway was icy.  We stopped in Cincinnati for gas and ate our packed lunch.  We arrived in Bruceton about 6:30.

Wednesday, January 30
We spent the day visiting with Mother.  She seems to be comfortable and adjusting to her surroundings and the staff.  The facility is very nice and everyone is very helpful and friendly.  And the meals are very good.....Mother is eating 3 good meals.  It was good to spend the time with her.

Thursday, January 31
The next leg of our trip takes us to Farragut, TN to visit my sister, Cecilia.  We left  on our drive about 10 am and arrived at the motel in Farragut about 3pm. Stayed in Room 125.  We had a great visit and dinner with Cecilia but too short a time.

Friday, February 1
Today we leave for Ocala, FL which is an 8 hour drive.  The traffic was not bad, even through Atlanta, and we made good time.  Our stay was at the Best Western on SW 38th and is the same place we have stayed for the past few years.  The inn has been completely redecorated has a new layout at the front desk and entrance.  All new furniture, interior, and appliances in the room.  We stayed in Room 137 near the exit.

We had dinner at the nearby Cracker Barrel which is in walking distance across the parking lot. After a 20 minute wait for a table, Al had delicious Lemon Pepper Rainbow Trout with fries and salad. I had the fish fry special with salad.  Al had the better meal of the 2.

Saturday, Feb 2
We were up early and had a continental breakfast abut 9am in the building adjacent to the pool.  This is one of the best complimentary breakfast of any place we have stayed. A nice choice of warm and cold foods.

We left for Captiva Island which is about a 4 hour drive around 10 after getting gas nearby.  I only drove a short time today since I was not feeling too well,  Al ended up driving most of the time.  We stopped in Ft Myers for gas and then at the car wash.  We did not do our usual shopping at Publix since by now I just wanted to get to the cottage and go to bed.  It was about 3pm when we arrived at our final destination and we unpacked perishables.  We had clam chowder for dinner. I went directly to bed where I stayed for the next week suffering with a terrible sore throat and cold.
Note: today was Groundhog Day and  I kind of felt like the groundhog burrowing back into his den when I crawled in to bed for a week.

Winter Days at Home

Our annual trek to Captiva Island will begin next week.  Thought I'd post a picture of what we will be leaving when we head south.  We had about 12 inches of snow this past weekend. The last time I posted here was on our return home in March 2018.
Stay tuned for future adventures.
