Day 33 Captiva 2019

Thursday, Mar 7
Al was up at 5. So very early! Very cool this morning but sun was shining bright.  I worked inside on this blog and Al was on porch reading and surfing the net.  I made grilled Corned Beef sandwiches with chips for lunch.  Took a walk to the beach....very calm waves and water was a beautiful green.

Dinner tonight at Lazy Flamingo .  We went at 5 which was a good time ......tables were all full but seats were open at the bar which we prefer. Shared a dozen oysters on the half shell...big and plumb...Al had fried oysters basket with fries and coleslaw.  I had the appetizer of Fried Grouper bites...we shared our orders and still had leftover grouper. We left just as the sun set at 6:30.

Day 27 Captiva 2019

Friday, March 1
We had our usual early coffee on the porch and then I took a walk to the beach...very quiet...only a couple of walkers and a few birds.  Lot of seaweed had washed up over night.

We had a lunch of mussels sandwiches on parmesan bread.  We spent afternoon on porch reading.  Al and I took a short walk to beach but then came back to the porch .

Neighbors next door have been playing tennis mid day and playing loud music but neighbors have toned down the music after  Al turned his radio as high as it would go, blasting over their loud music.  They quickly lowered the volume.

Cloudy late afternoon.  Took at look at the eagle in the nest.

Simple dinner  of Crispy Chicken tenders, fried corn, zucchini and rolls.  Today was a nice start to the new month

Day 26 Captiva 2019

Thursday, Feb 28
Cannot believe this is the last day of February.  Almost 4 weeks in Captiva have gone by!
Another early morning with coffee on the porch at the cottage. Walk on the beach about 7:30 found it to be very quiet with no one to see but a couple of cormorants feeding at the shoreline.

Back to the cottage and Al for pastries and more coffee.  We drove to DDWR about 9:30.  Lot of people here today.  Walked on dike.  We saw several Tri-coloreds, Yellow-crowned Night Heron, Cormorants, Anhingas, Ibis, Great Egrets, Willets, etc.

We walked the dike where we came across the Yellow-Crowned Night Heron.

Back to the cottage for lunch of Corned beef sandwiches with chips, beer on porch.  For an afternoon walk on the beach we found few people and birds.

While at the pool this afternoon, I made some photos of the eagles.

Dinner tonight was Crab Cakes from Jerry's...almost too much breading. Served with Fried Okra, Sliced Tomatoes, and Roll.

Day 24 Captiva 2019

Tuesday, Feb 26
We were up early at 7 and after coffee, we went to Ding Darling at 10 am for a walk on Indigo Trail to the observation deck area. We spotted Ibis, Gallinules, Blue-wing Teals, and Roseate Spoonbills.  There was also an alligator swimming around the waters beyond the deck.

Stopped in the visitor center to see the temporary Woodring 100th Anniversary Exhibition which features black and white photos by Charlie McCullough and artifacts from the Woodring home that chronicle the landmark home and the family's life on Sanibel Island.  Photo from exhibit below:

Back to the cottage for lunch of sandwiches on porch.  To beach about 2:30 until 3:30 and then to pool.
