Hello to those who are following our Captiva adventures!
This morning we began an early day with coffee and bear claws from the Publix bakery. We then went to the Farmer's Market in Sanibel where we purchased tomatoes, onions, radishes, avocados, fresh Mozzarella cheese, fresh cut flowers, etc from the selection of fresh produce and other goodies. The market was crowded with shoppers and dogs.
We then went to one of our favorites spots for brunch... Sanibel Café. Al had Smoked salmon and bagel with cream cheese, served with tomatoes, red onions and capers. I had the Tuna Salad served over Romaine lettuce with sliced tomato, melon, fruit, and a muffin (Coconut and Chocolate chip) of the day. It was about a 15 minute wait but well worth it. More about the restaurant and their song here.
Back at the house we spent a restful afternoon with gin and tonics on the porch at cocktail hour.
For dinner, Al grilled steak and I prepared baked potatoes and arugula salad with tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and homemade lemon vinaigrette and served with hot rolls and wine.
Tonight was the NFL Super Bowl XLIX from University of Phoenix Stadium with the New England Patriots winning over the Seattle Seahawks which Al watched on TV but I fell asleep watching Downton Abbey.

Day 1 on Captiva Island
Sunday, Feb 2, 2014
Today we finished the last leg of our drive to Captiva Island which is 250 miles from Ocala. We began around 9:00 am driving in a fog for the first couple of hours. When we arrived at Ft Meyers around 12:30, the temperature was 79 degrees. Ate lunch at Wendy's after a stop for gas. Made a quick stop at Sun Harvest for citrus and juice. We stopped at a Publix store to shop for provisions before crossing the causeway.
Arrived at the house in Captiva Island around 3:30. It's a beautiful day on the island and it looks the same as last year. We unpacked the car and settled in to rest after a tiresome drive and to watch the Super Bowl Game. Just before the game began, Al grilled steak and potatoes and we served with salad and wine. After dinner, we watched more of the disappointing game with the Denver Broncos losing big time to Seattle. However, I fell asleep and missed most of the game. We both will sleep good tonight.

Day 1 on Captiva
Al enjoyed the bagel and lox platter and I had shrimp salad with fruit and toasted muffin. We visited some of the shops and then headed back to Captiva.
Drinks on the porch with salsa and toast crisps were served prior to game time. Dinner tonight was steamed mussels with Italian sauce served over linguine with romaine salad. Wine served was Santa Christina Chianti. We watched the Super Bowl with the New York Giants winning over the Patriots. I fell asleep during the 4th quarter but woke in time to see the ending.
Today was overcast but in high 70's. Rained late evening.
