Day 39 Captiva 2019

Wednesday, Mar 13
I took an early walk on the beach about 8:00.  There was one Great Blue Heron feeding on the beach but not many other birds at that time.

 Al and I both went to the beach for awhile at 11:00.  Saw a kestrel hawk and lot of boats in the gulf.

We had a lunch of mussel salad, chicken tenders, french fries, iced tea. (cleaning out the freezer and fridge?) We went to the post office about 2 and stopped at Santiva General Store for fresh pastries and a WSJ...store has lot more in stock than last year ...new owners.

I went back to beach about 3...hardly any one out...very hot.  Joined Al at the pool.

Dinner tonight was Bertolli frozen dinner of beef and broccoli.  Nothing to get excited about.
After dinner we went to beach for sunset at 7:30....double treat sunset with dolphins.

After enjoying a beautiful sunset with birds, boats, and a dolphin, we had tiramisu and coffee on the porch.

Day 3 on Captiva

Today is the beginning of a new month. Already?   Today began slowly with coffee and bear claws served by the Room Service Guy (known as Al by some folk).   We spent a restful morning catching up with blogging and doing surveys....all that computer stuff that we do.
We had brunch of poached eggs, steak(leftovers), toast,fresh sliced tomatoes, and orange juice on the porch.  rain was forecast but never shown up....just a bit overcast.

There were several butterflies in the trees just outside the porch and I managed to capture one with the wild morning glories:

We took a walk over to the beach and found the Eagle was still hanging out in the Australian Pine tree.

 

 

 We walked back to the dock on the bayside and made some pictures:

As we sat on the bench on the dock,  the fishermen in a near by boat called out for us to look behind us and there stood a Great Blue Heron coming down the walk way.

 

 

He stood quietly for several minutes posing for our cameras.   He then flew into the water for a fish but returned to a piling by the dock before flying atop the roof of the boat house.

And then he flew away:

 

 

For dinner tonight,  I prepared a Chicken Salad Plate with mixed greens, sautéed chicken tenders, avocado, hard boiled egg wedges, tomato wedges, radishes, red onion slices, parmesan cheese  and more with Asiago  Black Peppercorn Dressing.  This was enjoyed with hot French Rolls and glasses of Pinot Grigio and Merlot.

Day 35 on the Beach on Captiva

What a glorious morning on Captiva today.   I walked out to the beach about 45 minutes after sunrise....a bit later than on the last few mornings that I walked on the beach but I was greeted by a beautiful sky with the moon appearing above the gulf.  Another beautiful day created by God for all to enjoy. I am so blessed to be here in paradise.

The pelicans were flying in formation to report to the beach for their day of feeding and riding on the waves and to entertain all the beachcombers.

I enjoyed seeing the moon still in the sky as the sunshine filled the world with light.

Two Great Blue Herons were stalking their territories on the beach but would they be able to share the beach with each other?  These birds are very territorial and I did not know which bird had the beach rights to this area.   The one standing up tall and stretched to  his great height or the other one that hunkered down ready to show his full size........

But then another bird appeared on the scene.....one that I had never seen on this beach at Captiva Island.........

....an Eagle had landed on the shore ready to claim a fish from the gulf for his breakfast. This was quite a sight because in all my years on the island, I had never observed an eagle land on the beach.

The Eagle had caught a fish and was eating as the Great Blues watched and came in closer to
see who was invading their territory.

The Great Blues then resumed their territroial flight and began to chase each other off the beach.

The eagle then gave flight......

.... and landed in a nearby Autralian pine tree .....

What a great time I had watching these events unfold on the beach on this wonderful morning!
